The Age of Reason
This was the era of an Investigation of True and Fabulous Theology, a deistic pamphlet, written by Thomas Paine, it criticizes institutionalized religion and challenges the legitimacy of the Bible. Published in three parts in 1794, 1795, and 1807. The Age of Reason presents common deistic arguments; for example, it tells of what Paine saw as corruption of the Christian Church. Paine advocates reason in the place of revelation, leading him to reject miracles and to view the Bible as an ordinary piece of literature rather than as a divinely inspired text. It promotes natural religion and argues for a creator-God. Most of Paine's arguments had long been available to the educated elite, but by presenting them in an engaging and irreverent style, he made deism appealing and accessible to a mass audience. The book was also inexpensive, putting it within the reach of a large number of buyers. Fearing the spread of what they viewed as potentially revolutionary ideas, the British government prosecuted printers and booksellers who tried to publish and distribute it . Political cartoon satire
This political cartoon shows a body in a morgue riddled with bullets and the cause of death being video games with a forensic scanner wearing an NRA badge stating "case closed".These image uses different tools to make people believe in it, one of them would be the fact that the person has been shot everywhere, something people do in videogames, another one would be the exaggeration this image uses to dramatize the severity of constant video game playing. The third tool this image is using would be the fact that only because the body is in the morgue and has been shot it automatically is blamed on video games. The theme of this cartoon is a morgue with a forensic analyzer wearing a NRA badge who states “case closed”. one value of this cartoon is to never take video games seriously and put them in real life such as the dead person possibly did due to the fact that their body is riddled with bullets and the C.OD. being video games.
this cartoon can be considered a satire since the cartoon has wit/humor.it is witty/ clever in the cause of death being videogames and the body riddled with bullets. Image link WWW.google.com/ageofreasonimages |
In these image above we can find a example of satire, sarcastic satire to be specific, the above image shows satire by us saying it in such ridiculous way that the reader can already understand that what we say is just not true. We sarcastically support the law by using examples of what would people do if the pro-gun laws are supported by the government such as robbing stores or other public establishments, or to defend ourselves from bullies by showing them our guns, these of course in real life would be very wrong and that is why we use said example. Also the idea that just because by the fact that many people get robbed or something else happens to them we say that these law could be good by saying that we could use these guns to our advantage and we use the city of Rio Hondo as if it was dangerous because it isn't, nothing happens in here.
